CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Saturday, September 17th, 2016. 7:23am.

Emma was the first to wake up. She pulled her phone out of her pocket, and laid there next to Nick, googling. She was checking her emails, trying to see if she'd been able to schedule Nick’s surprise.

Not that she quite wanted to ruin the surprise before Nick found out what it was. She heard Nick yawn next to her, then roll over. Nick was stretching, an arm reaching up towards the backboard.

It was kind of cute, in Emma's opinion.

She turned to look at Nick, who was looking up at her.

“Good morning,” Emma said.

“Morning.” Nick looked for the clock. “What time is it?”

“About seven thirty,” Emma said. Part of her regretted not bringing a change of clothes. She would have to run by the house before they went and got breakfast.

“I should probably get to work,” Nick said.

Emma looked at her. “Let's get breakfast first,” she said.

Nick hesitated.

“We'll make it quick,” Emma promised. And then we’ll go to the appointment. That part she didn't say. Not yet.
